PRESENT TENSE

Back to Jazz/Pop Groups for hire page

Present Tense's debut CD Night Shadows is trio based - piano, bass and drums (with some added persussion). The group is currently a quartet featuring Ronnie Kaufman on drums and percussion, Richard J. Frank on acoustic bass, Mike Telesmanick on keyboards, and percussionist Victor Orlando. To remain contemporary and refreshing, the group maximizes it's full potential by exploiting a unique combination of styles, textures, colors and flavors.

But that's not how Present Tense started.

Richard and Ronnie (R Squared Records), the writers and leaders of the group, have known each other since 1983. About four years ago they started formulating a "power trio" (hence their debut CD) with the goal of creating a contemporary instrumental sound with roots of musical greats Chick Corea, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Dave Matthews, and Herbie Hancock.

"Not your usual smooth jazz outing, the disc [Night Shadows] is modern but with an organic, traditional based approach..."

Music Connection Magazine

"We've found cdbaby 2 years ago as one of the best site for the jazz fans. We've been collecting almost every interesting cd since 20 years now. To find Present Tense was a great pleasure to us as a promising new group."
